Seaside Sketchbooks Beginners/Improvers

  • Clarence House Clarence Street England, TR18 2PA United Kingdom (map)

Learn how to sketch… do you wish you could capture a moment seen on a beautiful Cornish holiday: a flock of seagulls following a fishing boat, big skies constantly changing colour, hazy blue distant cliffs, sand and rockpools?

But let me guess: you feel like you can’t draw and it would be impossible to try? Or you’re ok sketching trees but awful at people, or competent with sketching but clueless with colour…

Come with me on a sketching workshop and I can show you the simpleway to sketch.

My husband Nigel calls it my “Sarah’s Squiggly Sketching”, and what he’s describing is the Continuous Line Drawing Technique I use. It makes it much easier to sketch than usual and it’s very forgiving too!

On this workshop you’ll learn:

·      Easy ways to sketch the sea, the beach, rockpools, fishing boats in the distance, and even put little (credible!) people in your sketches.

·      How to choose what to sketch (and not take on something that’s too challenging: choose your battles!)

·      How to use a viewfinder to simplify what you look at

·      How to make great sketches with just a biro

·      How to draw with the Continuous Line Technique

·      How to get things into proportion

·      Some top tips on perspective

·      How to add easy colour without taking out your whole watercolour kit

·      Create a super lightweight mini sketching kit to fit in your pocket or bag. You’re good to go!

We’ll work partly in the studio but we’ll spend most of our times sketching outdoors at three different locations: we’ll be at the sea-swimming rocks in Penzance, with great views to St Michael’s Mount: (the magical castle on a crag in the sea,) at a stunning Art Deco outdoor swimming pool (with a beautiful café: always the most important consideration when sketching, I think!) and in the historic fishing village of Newlyn with its fleet of fishing boats and a little lighthouse.

NB If you’re busy on these dates there a couple of similar sketching workshops to choose from on  6 & 7 July or the 5, 6 & 7 Sept

Book now to join me for two lovely July sketching days by the sea in sunny Cornwall.
